Building Your Own Wind Generator At Home
For most people the toughest part of any new project is simply getting started – taking those first few steps to actually begin the process can sometimes be daunting.
Like any new project, building a wind generator for the first time can seem like a huge task, what with learning how a wind generator works, to locating a suitable location, to finding all the parts.
It may seem rather obvious but the easiest place to begin after reading through the wind generator plans is to obtain all of the parts, but many people never get to this point. They have well meaning intentions, but take no action. If you want to make a change in your life to renewable energy then you have to take action, and that means finding all of the parts.
Let’s make a plan to make this whole process of finding parts a little easier. What do you need to do?
Start by making a list of all the parts you will need, this is conveniently done for you in the wind generator plans
List all of the places where you might find parts in your area
Develop a network of people who can help you with your project, from High school shop teachers to friends with mechanical skills
Get out there and find what you need
The list of parts you will need includes a DC motor, hub, blades, a body and tail assembly, tower, Diode, wiring and a bunch of batteries to store all of that power you produce.
The body and tail assembly can be made from materials easily found at your local hardware store. The tower, as we have explained is also easy to find, as area residents switch from regular to Satellite TV those old tv towers have no use to the owners. But these 40 foot towers are just right for most installations of wind generators.
We even show you in the wind generator plans where to find used batteries and recondition them with a battery desulfator that you build yourself.
That leaves the DC motor, hub and diode. These items are a bit more difficult to find. Fortunately a source of these parts has emerged taking advantage of the thousands of people who use the internet everyday. Most of you know ebay as a source of everyday items, but there are increasing numbers of vendors selling wind generator parts as well.
You need an Ametek Wind Generator DC motor about 40 volts, wind generator hub to fit your system, and a wind generator diode. In addition you might search for “Windmax wind generator blades and hubs” if you do not want to make your own.
Go to ebay and search for “Ametek Wind Generator Motors” , “Wind Generator Hubs” and “Wind Generator Diodes” and you will have a great start building your own wind generator.
This will get you off to a great start, and once the parts arrive, use your wind generator plans to simply put everything together.
Remember, that the first step may be the hardest but once you take that action the project will come together much easier than you had anticipated.
In the next issue of the newsletter, we will look at Wind Generator Blades – the decision to either build your own or buy them prefabricated, where to find the materials and how to put everything together.

I am interested in a healthy planet with healthy, happy human beings living on it. I am very interested in renewable energy. My lenses will look at the various kinds of renewable energy available and how we can incorporate it into our lives with great effectiveness, minimal cost and effort. I walk lightly on the earth and leave every place a little brighter than when I arrived. Thanks for reading and good luck.
